Care & Preservation

The Composition

  • Each Cornerstone and Keystone trough is a singular work of artisanal craft. Hand-crafted from cast limestone, these vessels are designed to weather the Canadian seasons with grace. Like the grand estates of the provincial countryside, these fountains will boast a natural patina — a "living finish" that enhances the story of your garden's history.

Seasonal Care

  • The Winter Estivation: To preserve the integrity of the stone during Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles, we recommend draining the trough completely before the first hard frost. Remove the pump and store it indoors. Covering the basin or turning it over ensures that expanding ice does not stress the handcrafted joins.
  • The Spring Awakening: A simple rinse with clear water each spring is all that is required. Avoid harsh chemicals or pressure washers, which can strip the natural character of the stone.

Water & Life

  • Natural Aging: Should you wish to accelerate the "heritage look," allowing moss to grow on the exterior is encouraged.
  • Mechanical Longevity: We have selected high-efficiency pumps designed for continuous, quiet operation. Ensure the water level remains consistent to keep the "song" of the trough at its most melodic.

How do I prepare my property for the weight of the trough?

Our Heritage Series troughs are substantial, handcrafted stone pieces designed for permanence. We recommend placing your fountain on a level, solid foundation—such as a reinforced patio, a concrete pad, or a compacted gravel base—to ensure the piece remains stable and perfectly leveled for an even water flow over the years.

What is included with my Heritage Series commission?

To ensure your fountain is ready to anchor your garden the moment it arrives, each purchase includes the handcrafted vessel, a high-efficiency submersible water pump, and a curated collection of flat river stones. These natural stones are designed to be laid in the bottom of the basin, beautifully concealing the internal components while creating the gentle, melodic acoustics that define The Cornerstone and The Keystone editions.

Is the water system difficult to maintain?

Not at all. Each trough is designed for simplicity and ease of use. The internal pump requires only a standard outdoor power source and should be kept submerged to ensure a quiet, melodic flow. Beyond occasionally topping up the water level to account for evaporation, the system is designed to be a self-sustaining part of your garden’s atmosphere.

Can I customize the water flow or sound of my fountain?

Each Cornerstone and Keystone trough is hand-finished, allowing for a unique "voice" in every piece. While the pump is adjustable to suit your preference—from a quiet, meditative trickle to a more rhythmic flow—the natural texture of the stone ensures that the acoustic experience of your fountain is entirely singular to your edition.

What is the process for a 50% deposit pre-order?

When you secure your edition with a 50% deposit, you are commissioning a 6-week artisanal process. We reserve your place in the workshop and begin the process of crafting the vessel. Once your fountain has passed its final flow test we will contact you to settle the remaining balance and arrange for pickup or delivery.
